Henry Tugendhat is a PhD Candidate at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He most recently worked as an Economist at the US Institute of Peace on their China team, and has also worked at the World Bank’s Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Team. His research focuses on Chinese telecommunications and data centers in Africa, and he has conducted fieldwork on these subjects in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. Henry’s work has featured in the Financial Times, the Economist, and the Washington Post among other outlets. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
